It was an early morning of January 2014. I was standing in front of Somnath Temple with a pile of shoes and sandals of my family members who just entered into the temple for arati. Two cameras were dangling on my shoulder as camera is not allowed inside temple. A long queue of devotees was crawling slowly into the temple gate like a caterpillar, fully quenched after eating lots of fresh green leaves. The artistically designed lampposts in the temple environs were looking like beautiful ladies holding bulbs in their hands to welcome the devotees of Baba Somnathji. After sometime when the last person of my group entered into the temple and no .one was seen from where I was standing, I started taking photographs of beautifully lighted surroundings.
I hardly had taken fifteen to twenty snaps, two elderly looking couples approached me and asked me to take their photographs. They also asked me the rate per photo in hard copy. I said, “Sorry, I am not a commercial photographer but if you want I will take some for you and send through email.” “Thank you sir, I will provide you my email ID.” One male member of younger looking couple amongst the two, said and began to make other members ready for photo session. However, the younger lady among the two, approached me and said, “But there is one condition you have to keep in mind for taking our photos.” I got surprised and told her, “Sorry madam, I can’t help you then.”
I went aside and began take some clicks of rising sun. It was really an awesome cloudless morning. After a while, a loud lady voice drew my attention. It was the same lady who asked me to take care of some conditions before taking their photographs. The lady was shouting at that man and the man was looking embarrassed.
When the man saw me looking at them, he came near me and said with a grin, “Sorry sir, she is my wife. Please forgive her stupidity. She thought you are a photographer.”
“It’s okay, let’s take photos.” I went towards where other three of them were standing. I found that the lady was still shouting and not ready to pose for group photo despite her husband’s request. I could not resist myself and told her, “Madam, you look so decent and cultured. It does not suit you to behave like this; that too in a holy place. If you are really angry with sir, kindly go home discuss in detail.”
After sometime, she became ready for photo shoot. I teased her for being angry with her husband and asked her to smile while taking their photographs. With the gesture of joke, I told her that as long as these photographs will remain in the album, she will remember this hysterical morning of Somnath and this photographer. She smiled and looked normal.
While giving email ID, the man told me that he is a headmaster in an upper primary school in Madhya Pradesh. He also asked me to give him my mobile number. The other couple was his elder brother and sister-in-law.
Later that days, I am regularly getting texts from him. Sometimes he used to wish me important occasions like Holi, Independence Day, Janmastami, etc. and sometimes he mentions about the changes in his wife’s behaviours.
Today as well I got a text from him wishing me on teacher’s day. He writes –
“You are best teacher in this world. I will always remember that. Happy Teacher’s Day!!”
My intention of writing this is to say that the learning sometimes takes place by chance, without much efforts gaining loads of credits and it depends on you how you encash it. As every teacher know that one of the main skills involved in classroom management is ‘how to make the instructions effective?’ The degree of intensity of your instructions being reached to your listeners depend on their style of reception behaviours which varies from person to person. The change seen in her behaviour is simply an impact of how I used words and syntax while placing points and fortunately that matched her behaviour of reception. ha.ha.ha…
